The City of Vancouver is reaching out to citizens to help imagine its future neighbourhoods.
Planning Vancouver Together seeks to create “complete, connected and culturally vibrant” neighbourhoods in the Canadian city that meet the everyday needs of those that live and work in them.
This may include a range of different housing types, a variety of shops and services, recreation and cultural facilities, schools and daycares, pathways, parks, or plazas.
Engagement programme
Over the next six weekends, the City of Vancouver will hold a survey, workshops and walking tours so that citizens can share their thoughts on how to make neighbourhoods more complete.
Insights gained from these activities will help identify the biggest issues and opportunities for City staff to explore and evaluate over the next several months. This public input will be used in the development of key policy proposals over the summer and fall of this year.
“As we enter this new phase of planning for our future, we should be putting residents at the centre of our work,” said Theresa O’Donnell, acting general manager of planning, urban design and sustainability.
“We encourage everyone to participate in these conversations that will shape decisions about how our city grows and changes into the future”
The goal of this city-wide planning process is to create a long-term Vancouver Plan for the future of the city that improves the livability and quality of life in Vancouver neighbourhoods for all residents and future residents.
The planning aims to reflect the diversity of the population and will result in a long-term, strategic vision and actionable Vancouver Plan, which will guide how the city grows and works.
O’Donnell added: “We encourage everyone to participate in these conversations that will shape decisions about how our city grows and changes into the future to become more a more affordable, sustainable, and equitable place to live, work and raise a family.”
The proposed Vancouver Plan is anticipated to be prepared for City Council in mid-2022.
